Science
Science at Haslucks Green Junior School
“Science is simply the word we use to describe a method of organising our curiosity” – Tim Minchin
“The important thing is to never stop questioning” – Albert Einstein
At Haslucks Green, we believe that the study of Science opens the minds of all students to the excitement and possibilities in the world around us. We provide a high-quality science education which builds the foundations for understanding the world through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. Science has changed our lives and is vital to the world’s future prosperity, and all pupils are taught essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science. Through building up a body of key knowledge and concepts, pupils are encouraged to recognise the power of rational explanation and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena. They are encouraged to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes. Children are taught how to represent ideas and findings in a range of ways using appropriate scientific vocabulary.
We aim to ensure that all pupils:
- develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics with a strong focus on experimentation.
- develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them.
- are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future.
- develop a love and respect for the outdoors and our natural environment.
- Build an awareness of science in our community and how it impacts our lives.

We're mad about Science here at Haslucks Green School and we always try to make sure our learning goes beyond the classroom.
Here's a list of some of the exciting learning opportunities we have had over the last 12 months to help boost our scientific brains!
- An EON workshop - helping us to learn all about saving energy.
- Years 4 and 5 visited 'Palmers Rough' to investigate local wildlife.
- A whole school day trip to 'The Big Bang' exhibition at the NEC.
As well as these exciting out of school opportunities, we run a termly after school science club led by 'Mad Science', as well as having special 'Mad Science' assemblies each term (you can find out more about this below).
We also have an annual 'Science Week' where we get to share all of our amazing work and crazy investigations with the rest of the school.
